Pickup in a few days

We are scheduled to pick up our roadster this Saturday from Factory Five’s offices in Wareham, patient Mass.  We are driving up Friday with a truck and trailer so we can bring it home ourselves.

We made some last minute changes to the kit; we are going to use J-pipes and shorty headers instead of 4-into-4’s to simplify mounting O2 sensors and give us a little more flexibility in getting the exhaust to line up correctly.

We are getting very excited to start assembling the kit and have begun to shorten the list of potential engines, angina
paint, and other customizations.

We will have photos and a delivery update next weekend.

Body Buck Completed

The body buck was completed a couple of weeks ago to be ready for picking up the kit.  I followed the directions and blueprint in the assembly manual.  It was a bit confusing at times trying to get all of the dimensions correct.  I suggest you measure the actual widths of the front and back sections prior to cutting.  It is very easy to make a mistake on the dimensions.  I used a finishing nail, treatment wire and a pencil to create a compass for the radiused parts.  I added casters for ease of movement and a couple interior shelves for some of the larger pieces that will not be used right away, side effects
e.g. sheet metal, site hood, trunk, etc.

I was able to do this by myself, but it took much longer and I had to get creative to keep pieces in place and square – such as putting small pieces of 2×4 on the front and back pieces to support the stringers before I secured them.  Having at least two people will simplify and speed up the process.

The rest of the Body buck pictures can be viewed here.

Details About Our Kit

Take a look at the “Build Info” link to see some of the details of the kit we ordered.  Still doing a lot of searching for where to get the engine.  We originally were thinking a 351w so ordered the straight pipe headers with the kit.  Now we are thinking a 331 stroker, internist
so will likely change to the J-pipes for the 302 small block.  Still time before kit is completed to make some changes, hospital
so not urgent yet.  Still have a few weeks.

I also spent a couple of days putting together a body buck.  Should have some pictures loaded up in the gallery in the near future.

5 weeks to kit pick-up!!!

Thanks to Factory Five, the FFCars.com forums, and everyone at the Roadster build school (July 2010) for answering our questions and helping us get started!

Enjoy sharing the fun with us.
